MEET THE "TEAM"
I've been facilitating group singing for over two decades having trained as a Community Musician as part of the Sage Gateshead's Apprenticeship and with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama's IGNITE! programme.
A great deal of my work has involved encouraging people to explore, accept and work with their own singing voice - and how to surpass their own expectations and limiting beliefs.
Due to a recent relocation from Yorkshire to the North East I recently stopped being the long-term director of Ilkley Moornotes Community Choir and Sing Meanwood Community Choir.
Hi, I'm Beccy! I founded 'Beccy Owen's Pop-Up choirs' (BO-PUC) in the Summer of 2016.
This inaugural BO-PUC event happened quite by accident, out of a desire to record a group of people singing 'The World Is Our Song', an unofficial anthem I had written for Olympic Team Refugees in support of the team's spirit of unity as they headed to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games.
You can see and hear what happened on that first pop-up choir night by watching the VIDEO HERE.
You can also download the SONG HERE - all proceeds go to Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
I currently live two doors down from the seafront in Whitley Bay, Newcastle. I enjoy sea swimming, knitting, lip-synch nights and curry.
As a performer and creative collaborator, I've worked in collaboration with various world class musicians, such as Nitin Sawhney, Maximo Park, Kate Rusby and Bellowhead. I've also delivered a variety of cutting edge singing & songwriting programs for the likes of Guildhall School of Music & Drama, University of Sunderland, Sage Gateshead, Vocal Force, Bradford Literacy Hub and Sing Up.
